A recent article in the Bethesda Beat highlights a call from the Black and Brown Coalition to MCPS to ensure those students that have suffered the greatest learning losses during the remote learning period are not left behind in the recovery. In sharing their asks with MCPS, the Coalition referenced MCPS’ own data that shows that the majority of students who have been disconnected and disengaged are black, brown and low-income. In planning for summer programming and beyond, the Coalition urges the Board of Education and school system leadership to keep equity as their north star.
