On January 5th, Identity was honored with the “Family Leadership 2016 Hero Award” by the Maryland Out-Of-School-Time
Network. The competitive award recognizes Identity’s efforts to engage families during out of school time while encouraging, promoting, and strengthening the success of youth. Program Manager Ana Dudamel and Parent Outreach Worker Marcela Urtubey accepted the award for Identity at an Ellicott City, Maryland ceremony. Urtubey spoke of the importance of parent engagement efforts saying “when we work with our parents who are craving knowledge and support, and we are able to give that information to them, it really changes lives and changes families for the better.” Identity has been working with vulnerable Latino families in Montgomery County for almost 20 years. We know that parent engagement is so important to a young person’s success, and we are determined to create opportunities for Latino youth and their families to reach their highest potential by enriching the ultimate support system – the family.
