You may notice some festively painted doors across the county, including at Identity’s Up-County Youth Opportunity Center in Gaithersburg. It’s a welcoming door, part of Welcoming Week, and some of our UYOC English language students were featured in this video about the initiative.

“Welcoming week is not just about welcoming new members of our community” says Kathy Stevens, Executive Director of the Montgomery Coalition for English Literacy (MCAEL) its about everyone welcoming each other, whether you’ve lived here a longer time, whether you were born here or weren’t born here, it’s really about this mutuality about reaching out and being welcoming to our neighbors.”
We are grateful to MCAEL for supporting our young people’s efforts to learn English, and all the doors that fluency will open for them.
